About Danielle
Human first, therapist second.
Qualifications and experience are hugely important when selecting a counsellor to work with but this doesn't matter alone. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of every 'successful' therapy experience.
I believe therapists should be human first and therapists second. Because of that, I also recognise that no therapist will be the right fit for everyone. Sometimes therapy doesn't feel quite right, and it's easy to assume that the problem lies with you. In reality, finding the right therapeutic relationship can take time, and it's important that you feel comfortable, understood, and able to be yourself. If you've had difficult experiences of therapy in the past, please know that you aren't too much, too broken or at fault.
If we decide to work together, I will build in time during our early sessions to review how things are going. We'll check in on what's working, explore any concerns, and make adjustments where needed. I want therapy to feel like a collaborative process rather than something you simply receive.
This is also why I offer my first session at half price. Choosing a therapist based on a website and a photograph can feel like a leap of faith, as well as a financial commitment.
If we work together online, you may occasionally spot my dog, Angus, asleep in the background.
How am I qualified to help?
Areas I work with
My humanistic approach means that whatever you are bringing to our sessions is welcome. I have considerable experience in various topics, including but not limited to anxiety & low self esteem, bereavement, life transitions, relationship challenges, trauma and work related stress.
I offer a welcoming and supportive environment for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
I am committed to anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice.
Experience
Alongside running my private practice, I have worked for a number of counselling agencies supporting individuals both in long term and short term therapy models.
I am a group facilitator for peer support groups, and safeguarding trainer for The Flying Child, an organisation dedicated to the support of adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. You'll also find me on their recommended therapist list.
I currently work at a local counselling service as a counsellor, assessor, EAP therapist and group facilitator.
I run a separate organisation dedicated to therapeutic support in the workplace, delivering training, workshops and counselling support.
